Prada’s new Ombre collection isn’t my favorite, but I actually like the subtle grigio/argento shading of this Prada Ombre Patent Leather Clutch - it’s very tasteful and not as wild as the other purses. What I don’t get is why the clutch is so huge - a purse this large and long needs a strap or biceps of steel. If the clutch were reduced to a more manageable size, it’d be a gorgeous, modern, and sleek evening bag. It just needs a little tweaking.

Her stint at Teen Vogue (is it just me or is that the longest internship ever?) must be rubbing off the Lauren Conrad of “The Hills.” She’s looking uber-stylish in this outfit, which flawlessly blends the classic (quilted black leather Chanel purse with the signature interlocking C logo) with the trendy (cute Nanette Lepore dress). I’m also digging the black nail polish. LC’s often carrying her Chanel handbag, which proves that she favors timeless pieces over flashy trends.

Funny how it works: Marc Jacobs designs something new, and I follow suit by adding it to my already immense collection of bags. I think I can be forgiven for my greediness, though - the designer’s Quilted Leather Bowler is too gorgeous to ignore. It’s about as timeless as a quilted purse can get, with its everyday shape, smart color and diminutive details, and works nicely with a power suit. Just like any other MJ, it also instantly amps up a drab ensemble. Available for $1495 at Net-a-Porter.

Nicole Richie’s trilbie makes her look a bit like a pregnant, blonde Pete Doherty, but we can forgive her because a) her hormones are probably raging, and b) she’s carrying the ever-stylish black quilted Chanel handbag with a leather and chain strap. Nicole’s been mixing up the designer handbags lately, and Chanel is always a winner in my book. My only complaint is that this large version is a little overwhelming for a waif like Ms. Richie.

I think we can all agree that combovers are very, very bad. This charmingly named Marc by Marc Jacobs Combover Tiny Shoulder Bag, however, is quite cute. As far as purses go, this little black leather number is really simple - some might say plain. Its only defining features are a touch of gold hardware and a little flap over the top. If you want a safe but luxe designer handbag, this is it. If you want oohs and ahhs and groundbreaking fashion, skip it.

Compared to some of the other L.A.M.B. purses, this Esquivel Satchel is almost tame. But that doesn’t mean it’s not adorable. This very wearable handbag features silver logo-embossed coated canvas paired with black and white smooth leather trim (which includes the signature band down the middle). The black rolled leather handles and metal feet give the purse a classic appeal, and the canvas is just funky enough without going B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

I found Miu Miu’s oversized Matlesse Tote to be deliciously bold and exciting, but in this smaller version, aka the Matlesse Mini Kiss Lock Purse, I’m not as impressed. I think the artistic look of the quilted leather gets lost when it’s this small, and the lackluster nut brown hue, a bad choice for what is presumably an evening clutch, is too dull and ineffective. Perhaps a clutch version would fare better in a more vibrant color (or black) and without a chain shoulder strap, which just looks wrong with such an avant garde piece.

Orange is a bit of a dubious color as far as handbags are concerned.
