This Flap Pocket Tote was glorious on the Miu Miu runway, but for real life, you really have to want to haul around a near-briefcase on a regular basis if it’s going to be your bag. While the structured leather and design are perfect for spring’s super ladylike looks, I’m still reluctant to get amped about this handbag simply because it’s awkward to carry. The leather is stellar (as are all bags Miu Miu when it comes to leather), but the bag is just too difficult to get around with on a regular basis. Maloles is a fairly new contemporary brand. The Anastasia Handbag is a little odd for my liking, and the Lucite handles aren’t very functional for the girl on the go. The combination of metallic and soft coral in interesting, but ultimately not very versatile. There’s a removable shoulder strap, allowing you to wear the purse messenger style or on the shoulder, and six metal buttons on either side of the bag add a bit of the utilitarian look to this purse. I appreciate a canvas tote as much as the next girl, I just also understand that I can get a nice one for under $10. The Bottega Veneta Medium Canvas Tote is a huge, huge mistake. When high end labels attempt to do a “casual” bag, they usually fall flat on their face, as is the case here. Sure the purse is nice, but do any of us want to hand over $780 for it. Especially when it’s white! While you can spray the handbag with a protectant, I also suggest having no children in tow when you carry this bag. It has a gorgeous European flair when styled with full skirt and slight heel, but I suggest leaving this one for the few of those who can throw away nearly $800 on a white canvas bag. This Michael Kors handbag is big, but if you can almost fill it, go for it. Because it’s so structured, the purse can actually be somewhat empty and still hold its shape, but to walk around with a bright towel and magazine peeking out while you go the beach or pool looks especially vacation-worthy. The Santorini Large Shopper is made of straw, so be careful with nicks or rough edges. This is Kors, so the quality is there, but no matter how tightly a straw handbag is woven, there are always chances of snags. The Prada Dressy New Look Tote caught my eye because of the stunning leather. It’s tough to find a black leather purse that really wows me (or, perhaps the market is just so over saturated with them that they’ve become boring), but this one did it the minute I laid eyes on it. Made of soft calfskin, the black version almost glows with a chic European ease that makes me want to wear the bag anywhere and everywhere. There’s a detachable cross body strap and removable flower adornment (which I am not a fan of), and between the color and hardware this is a sure way of landing that rock star look with minimal effort.
