Let’s hear it for the Gucci love! First Lindsay Lohan showed off her Gucci monogrammed handbag, and now Kate Moss, of all people - seriously, when does she ever carry non-black purses? - has busted out a Gucci bag of her own. Clearly going for a nautical look with her striped top and red and blue-accented purse, Kate seems quite in tune with the season, and it’s nice to see her shake her style up a bit. What do you think? Despite the new logo, some wacky designs, the unappealing (to me) Op Art print, Coach still manages to throw a few perfectly fabulous purses into the mix. Example: This Penelope Leather Shopper, which is that genius combination of chic and practical. It’s even reasonably priced at $348, and for a purse you’ll likely carry pretty often, it will pay for itself in no time. The classic approach is evident in the simple construction, but the luxe feel of the leather really drew me in first. Available in several colors at Nordstrom.

The multicolored Louis Vuitton Galliera Riviera is an artsy creation inspired by a picture of St. Tropez. It makes ample use of 17 different hues on thick, sturdy canvas, bolstered by leather trim and gold hardware. It’s the destination this bag depicts that really appeals to me; for $1940, I’d rather book a fabulous vacation than buy a cotton purse. A purse as beguiling as this Fendi Multicolored Reptile Stamped Bag is hard to resist. The first thing I’m all gaga about is the colors. Pastel colors can appear too cutesy and youthful at the best of times, but on Fendi’s classic baguette, they look sophisticated and sassy at once. The multicolored metallic leaves are reptile stamped and look absolutely exquisite - this is great if you’re not too keen on carrying the real thing. The drawback is the price tag, which may fool people into thinking they really are buying the real thing. That mysterious Martin Margiela has a special knack for experimenting with bizarre prints and design concepts, and this MM6 Maison Martin Margiela Graffiti Print Tote is no exception. Granted, this isn’t a purse you would get a lot of use out of, but I happen to find the bubble-gum washed print charming - and so fun for spring and summer afternoons. I’ve always been something of a Bottega Veneta fanatic, and I may or may not have recently taken a lengthy detour during a business trip to visit one of their outlet stores. Some of the label’s designs are admittedly on the very plain side, but even in those cases the magnificent woven leather more than makes up for it. This Sunset Leather Clutch falls somewhere in the middle. It’s a prism of earthy, understated hues and it’s destined to pair beautifully with things like airy cotton sundresses and flat sandals. But my first thought was really just…eh. They have and will continue to do much better than this. If your style inspiration is generally low-key and natural, this may suit your needs. To say I absolutely adore the new Coach Bonnie collection is a bit of an understatement. It’s rare that I find myself drawn to an entire group of seasonal purses, but such is the case with this fabulous selection of colorful styles. Created in honor of late Coach designer Bonnie Cashin, the collection has a little bit of everything. The Bonnie Jeweled Canvas Carryall is slightly odd in that it explains all about the collection in great detail right on the bag. The “jewels” are nothing more than sequins and tiny pearls, so they gleam unobtrusively against a busy backdrop that features a glam, Cashin-influenced gal clutching three purses that request “Peace Right Now.” Certainly an interesting choice, it’s right for anyone who desires something slightly different - as different as one can hope for from such a big name.
