“Twilight” actress Ashley Greene banned a bouquet of flowers and a beautiful bag (a black Dolce & Gabbana Miss Sicily purse, to be precise) on a recent outing. Though her outfit is pretty sporty, the handbag is smart and sophisticated. Just imagine how chic it would look with a grown-up sheath dress and heels!

The mouthwatering hue is so engaging, fun and instantly attractive that it’s hard not to be drawn right in. Beyond the color, the purse also boasts gorgeous, smooth leather, an easy, slightly slouchy shape and chunky gold hardware. As for the name, that’s in reference to the leather’s pearlized finish. This purse is also available in black, but nothing really beats a gold-tinged raspberry in my book. Available for $258 at Neiman Marcus.
Ah, romance. Evoking the sweet, soft and ethereal mood that’s right on trend for the season, the Valentino Alice Frame Satchel is delicate and dramatic at once. The light rose-pink leather is adorned with rosettes and interspersed with lace embroidery in the background. The result is stunning! Available to pre-order for $2795 at Neiman Marcus.
Another day, another opportunity to look drop dead gorgeous. Charlize Theron looked stunning – as usual – in a sequined dress at a recent awards show, and she brought her slim Jimmy Choo clutch along as the ideal accent. The purse’s cylindrical shape and glossy shine work well with her show-stopping dress, making this ensemble a total hit in my book.

Springtime showers, flowers blooming, warmer days ahead. I finally get to break out my colorful dresses and (gasp!) leave the black behind. Brunette locks and a leopard-print Gucci purse? Katherine Heigl is really breaking out of her style comfort zone. The former “Grey’s Anatomy” actress unfortunately paired her wild handbag with a classic winter coat and cowl-neck sweater, and the look doesn’t really work. Granted, leopard print (shiny leopard print, at that) is hard to pull off, but she’d have been better off pairing it with jeans and a black top or a sexy little black dress.

The sun is finally peeking out, even the chill hasn’t entirely blown over. While I wait for the trees to bloom, my thoughts turn to the romantic bags that inevitably hits the store in spring. At Louis Vuitton, this Elegie bag has a softer, more feminine shape than their more traditional speedy silhouettes. The grey and white palette of the monogram almost looks like lace. I’m in the mood for creamy chocolate eggs. While I have come to terms that a kind rabbit will probably not stop by confectionery treats, it doesn’t stop me from me hoping to see a pointy-eared creature this spring. Perhaps that’s why it isn’t surprising why I find this Rebecca Minkoff handbag appealing. The soft leather skin of this uniquely shaped purse has a certain bunny-like quality. The camel color reminds me of the animals I used to see nibbling on grass in my backyard. The elongated zipper pulls can be played with like whiskers. $495 at Sak’s Fifth Avenue online.
Romantic and a little sad. Those words described the brilliant designer’s last show as well as this particular handbag perfectly. The skulls mixed into the elegant and classic motifs were a consistent theme in Alexander McQueen‘s last year of work. Are we speculating too much when we wonder if it reflected his feelings of fondness and loss of the people he cared about? Are the patterns merely just a chic mix of hard and soft ideas? This gold, canvas and leather shopper is a bag that you might imagine an elegant grandmother would wear, until you see it up close and realize it does have a modern silhouette with darker, edgier images mixed in with the florals, that almost reads as a camouflage pattern. Who’s that underneath all that hair? Why, it’s none other than Miss Miley Cyrus, who’s rocking a patchwork Simone Camille handbag. Though patchwork isn’t always my bag, this line is popular with starlets like Nicole Richie, and the busy detailed print works with Miley’s subdued outfit. Just tread lightly — a purse like this will clash with most printed tops!
