I use Gillette shaving gel and a double bladed razor with wire guards to shave - I haven't cut myself in a very long time. I used to wax, and it stung a bit but wasn't too bad - the reason I stopped was because it was too messy and time consuming. It only takes a couple of minutes to shave, and sure, you need to do it more often than you need to wax, but if you're going in the bath or shower anyway then it doesn't make that much difference to your daily routine.
