What are you using to wash your face? I have combo skin, and was using too much stuff that was drying out my face. I strated using Cetlaphil soap (comes in a blue box in the skin care aisle of your local drug store). That got my face back in balance and it was recommended by my dermotologist. Just a thought.
I just use a normal soap to wash my face - you might be right actually that it could be the soap - we change brands all the time, maybe I should go back to Dove since my skin was OK then.
could it be a change in water (did you move?) or your diet or possibly stress? i'm in my late 30's and i must say that my skin has gone thru many phases - oily and acne prone in my teens and 20's, then great from about mid-20's to early 30's. now it's pretty much combination but much more dry than oily, but it could be the water where we live - it's considered "hard" with lots of minerals unlike the water in NJ where we used to live. i also love to use Olay Total with sunblock in summer!

My skin used to be fairly oily - I wish I could figure out what was causing this
my daughter gets really bad eczema/dry skin all over her body/face in colder weather and the pediatrician suggested laundering her clothes with perfume-free detergent and putting them thru an extra rinse, plus using Cetaphil wash and lotion after baths... this has definitely made a difference all over her body and face! but when she goes to my parents' for a weekend visit, she usually comes back with scaly, irritated dry skin again because my folks don't use the cetaphil i pack in her overnight bag and use plain soap on her! grrr....

My favourite is an all natural moisturiser like Burt's Bee baby lotion. It's light and none greasy and doesn't contain anything you can't pronounce. Smells nice too.
For my hands I use something heavier, once a day, like the Burt's bees hand salve.
