Default Exergaming

A friend of mine is a game developer and she is interested in exercise gaming - she's doing some research to see how many people would be interested in the idea, or, if they aren't interested, why not.

Would any of you use a exercise machine tied to a computer game - e.g. an exercise bike with a game built into it where you're racing and the speed you pedal affects the speed you go in the race.

Do you like the thought of that, or would it not add anything to your exercise experience?

Personally, I think it would be fun

That would definitely make exercising more interesting and fun.

I think there are already some items kind of like this on the market--one of my best friend's sons used to have a computer game that taught dance moves--so she might want to do some quick online research to make sure she isn't re-inventing the wheel. Sounds like a great concept, though. I wish her the best of luck!

Thanks for your responses.

The game she is thinking about is different to the dance mat games, and even the Aerobics Personal Trainer / Eye-toy games on the market - I appreciate you mentioning them though.

The way she is thinking, a lot of people are deterred from trying those games because they use either a computer or console, and that makes certain people think 'They must just be silly toys, it can't be *real* exercise'.

She's after the market that uses real exercise gear, and want to take their exercising seriously, but get bored while they're doing it, and still want entertained.
