Default Do it yourself hair color

Do you color your hair? I do. I prefer to do my own. If you do color your hair, which product do you use?

I use Clairol, hard to color gray. I usally color it back to normal color but this time I'm going burgundy.

I used to when I was a teenager, but then it was being dyed all kinds of odd colours then. Since I left those years behind I just leave it alone, and for the most part I am happy with it. Last time I dyed it was purple...

I'm doing black cherry tomorrow. I hope it comes out good.

I can't find anything that sticks - either home colour or professional

I usually either go purple or red when I bother, but that's rare these days since the cost vs time it lasts is way too much for me.

I might try bleaching my hair next time, see if that has much impact on how long the colour stays vibrant.

I did it! It turned out great. It's dark like my natural color but in the sun it lights up.

Sorry to hear your hair doesn't take color. Maybe lightening it up then depositing color may work. I've seen it happen.

I've only had highlights done - twice. Both professionally. I've seen so many people's hair in bad condition from home dye jobs that I won't do that.

I only have my natural color enhanced - no color changes -- so its not that frequently - so I pay the extra for the professional.

I've never home-coloured my hair, but I have done my sisters. The results were OK, though she has extremely thick hair which made it hard to get an even coverage.

She tried out the colour with the wash-out DIY colour, then when she decided that she liked the colour, got it done properly at the hairdressers.

I used to color my hair a lot when I was back in college and my hair become dry and unhealthy, then my hair started thinning at the top. I dont color anymore, I think my hair and scalp are very sensitive to chemicals.

I use the herbal essense coloring and I just put highlights in my hair normally. I haven't done it in a while so I need to do it soon again. :-)

I do most of the time. I do like a dark brown but my hair takes to the dye very easily so if I want it dark I have to do like a light brown color. I was thinking about doing blonde highlights again.

I have mine done at the salon, my hair is dark brown and I get blodish chunky highlights put in. It usually fades easily. I need to have it done now, actually. My roots are showing.

I used to color my hair all the time but quit when it turned the exact shade of my daughters dress for her awards banquet. Now, I just have natural grey highlights?

I go to the salon to have mine done. I did it myself one time and my hair turned green I kid you not. So from then on I go and have it done.

I got to the salon for highlights, but in between visits I use a root touch up kit so I don't have to go as often. It's been really helpful not to have to spend so much money every single month. Now I only go once every few months. Actually, the brand I use (clariol) is being advertised at the top of this site today and it says "25 products that changed our lives." It made me laugh, because I was like "that is very true for me...and I get to save money!"
