Default Infertility

I have a cousin who got married 2 years ago but until now she still has not yet gotten pregnant. She is already going to be 36 this April. I wonder if she or the husband is infertile.

Are they trying to get pregnant? Is this an issue that they have discussed with the family?

Don't wonder dear, just ask them if really you want to know why, so you can help or suggest something. Or maybe there are some more personal reasons why they don't have a baby yet, which they cannot disclose to anyone.

Maybe they don't want a child. Or maybe they don't want one yet. Or maybe they are having issues with infertility.

Either way, it's really not your business. I don't mean to be snarky, but as someone who has suffered from infertility for several years now, I can tell you that people's prying comments and judgments about whether we have kids or not can be very hurtful.

Don't ask personal questions or offer advice. Having children is a very personal decision and often the way to getting children is a very personal thing as well.

Drinking eggs, from any animal, does nothing to increase sperm count or quality.

Where do people come up with this stuff? Seriously, this is what is so frustrating to people suffering from infertility, to have to hear bonehead comments like this.

I've tried almost everything people have said to try. Stand on your head after sex, take these pills, take those. My husband and I have been TTC our 1st since August 2004 and nothing. He was checked out, sperm counted and he's fine. It's me.

Oh sweetheart, I really feel for you hon. If it has not yet been determined by a doctor that YOUR eggs are the problem, I'd like to share my medically-based advice I've given to other friends and family. You may have already done all this, so sorry if it's repetitive...

1. Get a basal body digital thermometer kit with a chart from a drugstore. Follow the directions - take your temp once you wake up, same time, write down the reading. When your temp fluctuates, then you might be ovulating.

2. In addition, check for a clear, sort of gummy vag. discharge (sorry if I'm graphic BUT since we're all ladies around here and I'm seriously trying to be helpful). I read that around the time of peak ovulation your body releases a gelatinous clear discharge that is very stretchy. Place this between your fingers and when you can stretch the sample a considerable length between your fingers, then you may be at the height of ovulation and it's time to get busy.

3. I think there is also another ovulation kit out there, I'm not sure.

When I was ready for my second pregnancy, I did ALL three methods and found out when I was truly ovulating. I was not really clear on it - but it could happen anytime before, during or after your period.

Again, I hope some of this helps you conceive!

Kelli, Have you seen a Reproductive Endocrinologist, yet? I went through fertility treatments to get pregnant with my Son. I have Endometriosis and knew I may have a problem conceiving. If you have been trying that long I would get some help. If you need any information or have questions let me know!!! Jen

I've seen 4 doctors. My gyno, my 'baby' doctor as I call him (he actually delivered me and my sister and most of my family members haha) an infertility doctor and an Endocrinologist. I saw the Endocrinologist last month and she said there isn't much more for her to help me with so I have to go back to my infertility doctor.

I've tried charting, temping, you name it. I was on clomid for months and nothing. I'm just now getting my period on track. 3rd month in a row now so we'll see about next month.

The doctors had told me I wasn't ovulating at all and then I was having blood work taken every month 7-10 days after my period ended and they found out I was. So it's an up and down roller coaster here.

Thanks for your advice though! I might pick that up this weekend.

Kelli, My fertility Doc was a Reproductive Endocrinologist. I did 2 rounds of Clomid and IUI with ho luck but did much better with Injectible drugs and IUI. You might want to look into doing IUI, Intra Uterine Insemination. The follow you very closely and do ultrasounds to see your follicles (eggs) and even trigger your ovulation so they can do the IUI with your husbands sperm.

We thought about doing IUI. That was going to be our next step if nothing happened.
