Default Energy

I clock a solid eight hours a night, if not more... but I still feel sleep during the day sometimes. I was big on caffeine for awhile, but quickly became addicted to it (note to self: no more Red Bull!). What do you recommend as a way to boost energy during the day?

Power naps are a very good idea. I used to do that when I was working. Also, instead of coffee, I drink juices and take 500 mg of Vit C before I go to work.

Caffine is my friend as well I have nto tried any pills or energy drinks I have two small children so I nap when they nap and get about 5hrs during the not so in all during the day it avg about 8hrs. I have also found out on the days dad is home and I sleep the whole time I am tried and sluggish, so I think too much sleep doesn't give you any energy.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm also feeling the same way as the original poster during the day. I am also thinking about talking to my doctor because my tiredness has been really bad lately.

20 minute power naps are great. My doctor said you will feel rested after 20 minutes, a long nap can make you feel more sleepy

I notice the same thing. I could sleep and get a full nights sleep but still be tired during the day. I use to have to go to Starbucks every morning for a coffee but I've slowly stopped that to one every couple days. I haven't had one at all this week. But my mom always said it was because I didn't have enough iron.

I find that having some protein really helps to give me an energy boost. Ironically, my DH and I love the energy drink (by Nestle?) that happens to be called, "Boost"! Chocolate is very yummy. I also gave up sugar and use splenda instead in my coffee.

I'm a caffeine addict and since I don't even like the taste of decaf coffee I have no intention of changing my ways

That said, I have built up such a tolerance now that coffee doesn't seem to wake me up any more.

I've found that getting up and moving around, stretching in my chair, jogging on the spot while making drinks, stuff like that wakes me up.

Water can really help too. Sometimes we get tired because we are actually getting dehydrated.

Caffeine can be a problem too because it is a dieuretic and can cause dehydration.

Drink lots of wated and that can boost your energy.

Remember to stay hydrated. Dehydration can certainly make you feel drowsy and fatigued.

A lot of times when I am feeling punky, I drink a glass of water or two and its works better than coffee.

Bananas! That is currently my power snack. It's high in potasium, has sugar to give you a boost but then I don't have a crash like with sugar. It's been my morning boost for a long time.
