How can we spread the word out there on The Purse Page?

I think we have a nice site and fun, and we have thousands of purse reviews, but none of us here are promotional people lol. I'm the technical guy and ladies here are the fashion writers.

Our site is about nine months old and we have a little over 800 members on the board, and had nearly 250k hits on the main page in the past 9 months, so thats cool. But I wanted to ask you all what are some things we could do to really spread the word out there on our site?

I'm open to doing a contest and giving away prizes or whatever you think is a good idea. I'd love this messageboard to be filled with people all chatting away.

I'm just so bad at promotion, so any thoughts or suggestions?


I could even give a prize for the best suggestion if you all like that idea

really we can get people to sign up here if we give giveaways and tell them to sign up first to be a member and they should reach like a minimum of 10 or so posts (whatever you want marco), to be eligible or to be entered to win something... i dunno if it'll work.. that's the only thing i can think of as of now....and also, you should or the mods should check if that particular person is quite active in the forum

Thats a good idea. Im happy to do more giveaways if it helps spread the word

I am not sure about the giveaways.They may just come here for that only but then again there maybe some that will stay. Its a great place with great people here.I can say i have learned alot from being here.

Titles are best. When people google words the titles of the new threads come up and the more the person uses the word purse the more people will get this page.


Like I'll start a thread called... Chat forum and put in great community! It may cause more hits and more people to join. More broad topics may help as well. Women's issues, Meet new friends on line, celebrities names, etc.

Active moderators like I already see is very helpful. Games too. Like fun word games are good. Give the person a reason to return like a food establishment does, is always helpful.

I do agree with Angel - a contest will draw people in and the ones interested in meaningful discussion will stay. So we should all think of why each of us comes back to this forum. Marco, take a look at which topics are the "hottest." Three months ago, I came here to discuss my Coach Soho Mia Satchel, and I stayed because I made some friends!

yeah good ideas and good topics will make this forum grow bigger. also, what if we had a news area here?! about gossip, relevant news, etc..most people i know read news on the internet first thing in the morning. the best thing is, we can also discuss it! we dont exactly need to write articles from scratch maybe just put the headlines and the links to avoid any legal implications.

Referal contests are a good idea if you make sure that the referred users have to post a few times.

I think you should make 'user bars' (long, narrow bars to put in signatures) - make ones related to fashion brands, and put the URL of the site in them - they seem pretty popular with a lot of people in the myspace age group.

Talking of myspace, how about setting up a page for this forum?

Not to spam people's messages - that's not good - but if you friended people, your profile link will appear in the friends list and might inspire someone to click on it.

I know a lot of websites have myspace pages for this purpose.
