Default Summer Vacation Ideas

I need some ideas to keep my kids busy during their summer vacation. My son is going to take guitar lessons and my daughter is going to take drawing lessons, but I need some more time fillers so they don't just sit around and vegge all the time.

What are their ages?

You may try biking or roller blading or skateboarding. We have a skate park by our house and my three kids take their scooters there and they are entertained for at least two hours and get some excercise as well. What about a water park pass? You can drop them off if they are old enought to be there on their own. And pack a lunch. It's cheaper.

Hi, Fizz! I'm carebear. Nice to meet you.

During the summer especially, I like to take my kids to the local library for the reading programs they do every few weeks. Or even if they just hang out in the kiddie section and play with an awesome puppet theater, I can also browse thru magazines and books at the same time! Plus you can also find an aquarium or kids' museum and join as a member. My brother bought our kids a phenomenal water slide for the back yard - that's a lot of fun and the other moms love it when I call them for a playdate. Also, you can join a community pool and go there once a week. We also just love to go to a park and have a picnic lunch. All of this makes the summer fly by!

hi carebear!! i think you are one of the most active new members !! as a kid i remember having the most memorable summer just playing with my siblings ( i had four siblings so that was fun)..but i think giving them guitar lessons and drawing lessons are a good start..u never know! those activities might get them started creatively! you might have a rockstar and an artist in ur house!

When my daughter was younger, I would sign her up for several one week different day camps. Also, JoAnn Fabric had several week long "camps" that were 2 hours at a time. I would drop her off and then find a shady spot and read or nap. It was wonderful time off for me too.

Now she is older, almost 17, so this year we are going to pick a different CT town once a week and go and have lunch there and check out a museum and see what that town has for shopping and just spend the day out together.

As usual you darling women have not let me down, fantastic ideas. I love museums, I really love that idea because it not only gets them active, but also works their minds. The day camp is also another great idea and one I would have never thought of.

Great ideas so far!

The only one I can think of to add is to check what the local leisure centre is doing. The one near me offers leisure cards that give a certain number of sessions for free for certain activities, and really cheap entry to other things.

So, for example, over a 2 week period you can have a certain number of swimming sessions, a certain number of tennis sessions, etc, and then pay only £2.50 to go on the climbing wall, instead of £5. It works out really well for sporty kids.

Just an update. The summer is not going well. It seems they would rather fight with each other rather then have any fun. I need to find activities that they can do apart from each other so that I can maintain my sanity.
