Default My Oven Broke Down!

Last week we were having guests for dinner. Time is limited with these people because they always come from one appointment and leave soon for another. That means they have a one hour window for dinner.

10.40am I put the oven on to warm. Didn't think anything of the lack of 'click'. Came back five minutes later to put the lasagna in and the oven was still cold! NOOOOOOO!

I called one of the other guests, who was coming to support conversation (this was a formal dinner btw, with overseers from my church). The other lady from our congregation lived just down the street, so luckily I was able to get it to her and she cooked it and brought it back.

What a bad day to happen-it couldn't have been worse!

What a bummer! Can it be fixed or will you have to replace it? At least it's grilling season and you can probably grill your way through most of the summer.

The repair company came out today and said they have to find a switch for it. It is repairable in theory if the part can be found, but it's really old....

May be time to apply for a sears card and get a new one.

That's terrible yet humorous.

At least you managed to get the dinner sorted out in the end.

I hope they find a part for it! Good ovens are expensive, but well worth it (I really appreciate mine when I'm stayin at other places).

How are you coping without one at the moment?

Well the repair company is trying to locate a new switch/dial for it, and they have advised that given the age, that if they can find one we are better off keeping it than replacing it because they don't make them this sturdy or long lasting now. This one is built like concrete.

So we are still without it. I am a pretty decent cook; I did it professionally a few times and so I can cope with just a hob and a slow cooker, the microwave and the hamilton beach grill. It just means no pizza!
