New York Fashion Week Runway Report: Isaac Mizrahi
By: Erin D.
Hmm. Perhaps his tenure at
Target has given
Isaac Mizrahi the impulse to break free from practical, wearable designs.
Mizrahi’s fall ready-to-wear collection at New York’s Fashion Week was quite befuddling. Mizrahi returned to his high-concept design roots, but the results belonged in an art gallery, not in a woman’s closet. Evening gowns boasted huge bottoms with fur petticoats peeking out, while the Amish may have inspired Mizrahi’s high-waisted full skirts with fur trim. For a fall show, there was an alarming amount of springtime florals and pastels, though they were oddly paired with fur booties. To be fair, Mizrahi did show a couple of sleek, streamlined column gowns in black and heather gray to beautiful effect, but the rest was over-the-top confusion.
