New York Fashion Week Runway Report: Luella
By: Erin D.
There’s no mistaking the fact that
Luella is British. Who else would kick off their
New York Fashion Week fall 2007 ready-to-wear show with a long red hunting jacket and black riding hat? The fox-and-the-hound motif also resulted in black silk smoking jackets and fitted blazers that Hugh Hefner would die for, red velvet capris that resembled riding pants, and bright red long trench coats with military-style buttons (hint: military is big this season). It wasn’t all outdoorsy, thankfully. Black lace polka-dot party dresses recalled the ’50s, sexy minidresses were tucked under black leather jackets, and bubble dresses in shades of deep blue and gold showcased another big fall trend, pockets. Luella definitely showed a hip but playful streak…there were slim pink pants, long leopard coats, hot pink prom dress wannabes, and striped blazers that were straight out of Keith Richards’ closet. Very fun, and very British.
