New York Fashion Week Runway Report: Betsey Johnson
By: Erin D.
Betsey Johnson can always be counted on to liven up the runway, and she certainly didn’t disappoint this year. Her
New York Fashion Week fall ready-to-wear collection was themed a “School for Charm,” and the first outfits out of the gate were tongue-in-cheek maid uniforms complete with dusters. Thankfully things quickly became more practical, with flouncy, silky polka-dotted dresses, white knee socks, roomy checkered plaid coatdresses, and white blouses paired with high-waisted skirts - all straddling the line between Catholic school girl and, well, naughty Catholic school girl. This being a Betsey Johnson show, there was plenty of personality, including a cozy
leopard-print coat, a
dark red halter dress that would get any girl kicked out of charm school, and some menswear-infused Annie Hall looks, while the
evening dresses at the end recalled Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” style.
