This ‘designer’
Anna Sui for the past week’s
fashion show for Fall 2007 has once again followed a girly and bohemian vintage look. For the
handbags and the
clothes, she nails the
vintage look dead-on no doubt. Why? That’s because her MO is to buy a few items from her favorite antique market, throw them at her assistants and interns to interpret in as many ways possible until it looks like a full collection. Is this a harsh criticism? No, just a consistent report from the many assistants and interns I have met over the years who have worked with her. (There are many of these as no one can stand being there for that long. Black and purple dominate this collection. While I personally happen to like these colors, these are the same colors that can be expected from this woman year after year after tedious year. The tote with the yarn-like arts and crafts details are cute, the purple knubby yarn knit is cute too. If you had arrived at the antique market ten minutes before Ms. Sui did, they could have been yours for about $25. Now, you’ll pay ten times as much for the knock-off.
