Default Why Must I Follow Rules?

I live with a family member who is forever telling me my fashion faux pas. I do not care, honestly, if I meet the rules of colour matching. Some of my daughter's most beautiful clothing sets do not meet the rules and so she hates when the 2 year old wears them.

Why is it so strict? I mean-wearing royal blue with light blue is ok, but wearing red with pink (which are two shades of the same colour in the same way as the blues) is not? I don't get it.

i admit matching black and white is nice...but it's safe...and it's very boring to be so matchy matchy all the time. it's always nice to put a twist in ur fashion sense. hey if what you wear suits you and your personality, why bother what other people say it's all about taste and preference.

As they say, some rules were just meant to be broken! Express you individual style, it really doesn't matter what others think.

i dress my kids so safely, very matchy, down to the shoes. but one day in target, i was sitting in the cafe next to a mom and daughter (probably about 5) and was so impressed with the way they didn't dress matchy - they both had on bright skirt outfits sorta bohemian style and the mom's adorable beaded sandals were orange and the girl had on the cutest green beaded sandals... and neither of these colors were in their outfits! i wish i could accessorize like that! not safe at all but very unique AND stylish!

I think fashion is all about making your own rules. Why are the designers the only ones who get to be creative? Wear what you like, wear what fits you well and makes you feel beautiful! Who cares if it's not a perfect match?

Why be boring and follow the "rules" as to what you can and should not wear together?I wear what I like.I may not be trendy...but I don't care as long as I think I look nice.
I personally don't want to look like everyone else.I am who I am.

I certainly don't see top fashion designers following color matching rules. High Fashion is about exploring the fashion possibilities. Clothes are to make you look and FEEL good, I wouldn't worry to much about what people say, it's all about YOU!

Hey, that's right. Designers DON'T follow rules, so why should I?!

I never have followed rules and in truth, till I moved here I didn't even KNOW the rules. I like to mix and match my colours, and if that means that my outfit is somewhat gaudy then so be it. The mod in me needs a little expression from time to time.

I thought 'rules' were only guidelines for 'I don't want to risk accentuating a bad feature' - like certain prints will make you look fatter, so if you are unhappy about your figure, don't wear them.

If you can pull off a 'no-no' then go for it! I've seen people do the white socks with black shoes and trousers, and on them it looks classy and confident - I thought that was a bad one too?

Maybe people telling you XYZ is wrong are just jealous because you can pull it off?

Frank Sinatra looked GREAT in white socks and black trousers! I loved the look.....

This person is just really picky. She expects my daughter to be dressed according to rules too-and the kid is only 2.

I can understand pushing your clothing expectations on to another adult, but not a 2 year old.

I've seen babies even younger than that wearing designer gear - it probably cost more for the parent to dress the kid than most items in my wardrobe cost, and the baby will outgrow it in a matter of months!

I can understand wanting a child to look nice, but there's nice, and theres supermodel....why not save the money to give them something nice when they're old enough to appreciate it?

Etali your right about "the rules" regarding body shape. Some body types look better in some things then they do other things, but some rules are just silly. Like the no white before labor day, that's just silly.
