Default Big Woman, Small Bag

There have been similar threads on this lately and it has had me purse spotting when out and about. I finally saw the thing that confirmed it all for me. Big women cannot carry tiny bags.

This woman was probably 350lbs. Her bag was over her shoulder, with such a short strap around her large arm that the bag was nestled in her armpit. And the bag itself was maybe 9inch long by 4 inch tall.

It looked very silly indeed.

It wasn't her height that made it look so very odd... and of course this is just my opinion. I'm sure she thought she looked great.

It may look silly for a larger woman or man to carry a small bag, but I don't think they should over-do the situation and carry a super large bag since that'll make them look larger. I think a medium-sized Marc Jacobs hobo or something low-key would be perfect.

Yes I do think kitsch. I also think that yes, you could overdo it, overcompensate by upsizing. I guess it's more tough on large women than I thought!

yeah it is tough... imagine having too many considerations on what to wear, what bag to carry, etc...

actually, i feel sorry for that 350 lb. woman there are countless reasons for that woman to carry a smaller bag, such as affordability (bigger ones are more expensive)... maybe it was a gift...affinity for that particular size/style... lack of knowledge regarding proportion and style... desire to be a minimalist who carries only essentials... a medical condition that precludes her from carrying a large bag, etc. it's amazing enough that she can actually get out of the house and walk around, nevermind carry a bag appropriate to her size.

That's certainly a different perspective! Though I have to say that 350lb should be a person who is still able to be active. My (almost ex) husband was 300lb and used to walk 5 miles a morning when the weather was good. He shot up to 330 when we separated of course....but that's not my problem

maybe i was overstating that then! i just have a soft spot for people who are different or even disabled - i used to be a social worker for people with disabilities for many year, i'm a big proponent of civil rights here in the us and i value diversity. in fact, one of my best friends is a wonderful former co-worker who happens to be a quadriplegic... yet she's quite the fashion plate and carries around an authentic chanel while zipping around in her motorized wheelchair she was in my wedding party along with four other gals i love: a filipina, a jewish sister in law, a black and lesbian friend from grade school and a cousin who's been a sister to me. i couldn't have been blessed with more amazing and loving friends and relatives.
