Broken Purse Strap: What to Do
By: Erin D.
Oops! You’re not sure if it was your 10-pound copy of Vogue or your bad habit of swinging your beloved Chanel bag around, but the poor thing’s strap has come right off. Don’t start wearing mourning black just yet - and DO NOT try to fix the problem with a stapler or somce Krazy Glue. Leather handbags require some TLC from special sewing machines, and this is a job for a professional. Simply take your handbag to your local shoe repair shop, which will typically fix the broken strap for about $10-$20. They can often even reinforce the other seams (for an extra charge) to avoid another mishap. You’ll have your bag back and as good as new in no time.
Note: To ease the strain on your straps, avoid overstuffing your handbag; swinging the bag by its strap; resting the strap on doorknobs or chair frames; and pressing down on the bag with your hand while wearing the purse strap on your shoulder.
