Default How To Be a Smart Handbagger

How To Be a Smart Handbagger

By: Erin D.

You go to the grocery store to buy a copy of Vogue (hey, who needs food when you’ve got Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley?). The cashier sticks your magazine in a plastic bag and you’re on your way. But hold it - do you really need a plastic bag to carry something that you could easily fit in your Marc Jacobs tote? Not to get all preachy, but limiting our use of plastic bags is one easy way to a) help the environment, and b) feel less guilty about dropping a grand a ginormous designer tote bag. Next time you’re out shopping, stash a canvas tote, or just try to fit as much as you can into your huge Stella McCartney shopper. You’ll be doing your part to save the earth, and you’ll be the most fashionable shopper in the frozen foods section. Oh, and keep your receipt - God forbid they mistake you for Winona Ryder.

Agreed, we really need to cut down on carrier bags. I just wish I could find an affordable tote bag that would actually last a while under the use I give it!

I keep some 'bag for life' bags in my jacket pocket these days - sure, they aren't stylish, but at least I'm doing my bit.

I always stash reusable grocery bags in the trunk of my car. That makes it easier to bring to the grocery store.
However, I don't know if I'll be using my Anya Hindmarch I'm not a plastic bag tote for groceries! It's just too nice. I think I'll just bring it to work.
