Gianfranco Ferre, Architect of Fashion, Dies at 62
By: Mariana L.

A legend of the fashion world died Sunday evening after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage.
Gianfranco Ferre launched his first women’s signature collection in 1978, but truly made his mark in the industry when he was hired to lead design at the house of
Christian Dior. His nickname of “Architect of Fashion” was earned from his trademark sculpted dresses and exquisitely structured clothing. Fellow fashion icon
Giorgio Armani said that he “admired him for his coherence and the intellectualism and artistry upon which he based his fashion philosophy until the end. The greatest sign of his character was in that constant expression of absolute independence.” Fresh and vibrant up until his last days, the private Ferré had sought to update his brand’s image, hiring
Julia Roberts and rock singer Skin to star in his advertising campaigns. This past February, Ferré held court at his opulent Milan offices on Via Pontaccio when he threw a big bash that featured a live performance by Skin.
