This may have been asked before but I'm curious if anyone has ever shopped on ebay for handbags and how they're able to protect themselves from counterfeit models. After all, a seller could easily post a picture of a real model but then deliver something very different indeed.
I rarely buy on Ebay but if I do, I will only buy from MPRS or ALVA selected sellers. In my honest opinion, it's much safer to buy from them because they all have to pass certain requirements or standard, something like 10-35 proven authentic transactions with happy customers before they can become qualify.
I have bought Chanels from reputable sellers on Ebay with good track records, excellent feedback, etc. I have no been disappointed. I look for key points that indicate whether the purse is authentic-screws, tags, where made, etc. Some people sell "relative's" purses who swear they are authentic and are not.
I agree that it's a gamble with Ebay sellers but I have a few favorites that have thousands of trades with similar or more expensive bags sold and great feedback. I have recently made Ebay aware of some that are blantantly fakes-and they're advertising them as authentic. One person that I contacted told me that they have a return policy. That doesn't help the person who thinks it's real and had not shown it to anyone who could tell them otherwise. Life is often a risk but I try to minimize my risk by asking others on the forum for help and try to share what I have learned. I hope to get responses from other forum people with their helpful hints.
Wow-I'm a jaded New Yorker and hadn't even thought about the possibility of stolen stuff. Luckily, I tend to like the vintage bags-I stay away from the new ones which very well may be problematic.
Thanks.
I like the vintage bags as they are usually more "classic" and you don't see them coming and going. Also, they tend to be more affordable. If they're gently used or just need some TLC, I do prefer the vintage.
I haven't run into any vintage bags that actually still look good. If I could I would get more of them instead of spending an arm and a leg on new ones.
I have been really very lucky. I have 7 chanel bags and 5 are vintage. Each of them is in fantastic condition. I am not super picky but insist on the seams, handle and stitching is in nice shape-no rips to leather, etc. I don't mind some scuffing as I have no problem using a bit of polish. The inside is less important-a few marks or minor staining is fine since I fill the bag with all kinds of things that always cover the bottom.
