Purse Page at NY Fashion Week: Vera Wang’s Spring 2008 Collection
By: Mariana L.
Friday, 10 am (too early for me) at the Big Tent at
Bryant Park
The elegant queen bee of modern bridal designs,
Vera Wang’s spring collection proved she could do more than take the sophisticated down the aisle. This show was dedicated to Ancient Rome, with soft, draped, toga-inspired shapes. The colors were at times, drab, like olive, mustard, putty and brown. This is a big contrast to the clean fresh pastels seen in other collections this season. The silhouettes were big and poufy at times, which certainly isn’t flattering for a lot of the population, but she also had very glamorous draped silk column dresses that could make you look like a goddess. There were some soft metallic gowns that were definitely myth inspiring, but in one outfit, there were bright, bicycle-short length bottoms in bright purple. Biggest statement? Lots of chunky, jeweled, hand-made appliqués acting as a necklace/collar type effect.
Spotted in the Front Row:
Vanessa Carlton and (Buffy!)
Sarah Michelle Gellar
