Default Should you be honest if you don't like a purse gift?

Well, I think so for two reasons:

The gift giver will wonder why she never sees you with it.
And she may get you a similar purse next year.
Also, gift receipts are nice.

I hope this doesn't happen to me this year...

I would definitely ask for a gift receipt, especially if it was a very expensive bag. But I wouldn't ouright say I don't like the bag, usually there is a normal reason why I don't like some bags other than telling someone it is ugly.

I'd say something like, maybe they have one with a longer strap that I can easily carry over my coat.

Well, I didn't get any purses.

But I did get some clothes I have to return...

Fortunately, all the purses given to me by my friends were great because they know my taste. That's why I keep using it until now.

I'm definitely honest about every gift I recieve from people who are close to me because I know that they want me to have something that I'll like and use. However, I do it tactfully like twocents suggested...."I LOVE the purse you gave me, but I could really use something (bigger, smaller, wider, with a longer strap, in a bolder color, in a more subtle color, whatev)." They always understand and tell me the same type of thing when they aren't 100% in love with a gift I've given them.

i think it is much better to be honest if you dont like the purse bag given to you but you have to say it in a nice way that would not hurt the feeling of the person who gave the purse bag to you

no no no. throw it in the donation pile if you don't like it, but don't say anything. They'd rather not know and they will talk about you behind your back if you are honest.
go buy your own purse and leave well enough, alone...
