Default Does anyone make totes?

I was curious if anyone on the board makes their own purses and totes. A friend of mine buys patterns and the supplies and makes them. She then sells them on ebay. I'm not looking to sell on ebay or anywhere else. I am planning on trying to make some myself though. If you have made totes and purses how did you start out?

I guess I'm in great company then. I usually recruit my husband for his help. Most recently it was a pair of jeans that had a small rip near the zipper due to the stitching comming loose. I already told him when I start the totes and purses to be very prepared since I'll be screaming come help me!

Default I sew

I sew, and just the other day i was at wally world looking at canvas.... 4.97 a yard is not bad at all.
If i could I woudl make a totebag with multiple compartments inside and long handles and look like Lands End Totes or LL bean totes....... Though you figure after I finish it would be a bit bigger and the same price as if I bought one........

I like some of the simplicity tote patterns but if i dont have to pay its better...
