Default Knock-Offs

I live in NYC and a lot of people just buy knock-off bags in Chinatown for super-cheap. It's a good way to stay ahead of the trends if you don't have a lot of money, but of course I always feel like I'd rather have an authentic bag than 10 cheap ones. Does anyone else have experience with knock-offs? I believe it is illegal but they do it outright in Chinatown.

Forgot to mention that a lot of the Chinatown shops have fake back walls where you can slip in and see certain bags. Not sure why some can be out in the open and some can't? Very sketchy.

Yup they're very popular here in Manila, you can buy them for a very cheap price and sometimes it's hard to determine which one is the original or not. Guess, it just depends on how one carries it. I think they come from China.

Fakes ARE illegal. I personally would never carry one. If I don't have the means to purchase what I like, I'd rather save, save, save than carry a fake and waste money on trash.

I personally dont like fakes and I don't think I could ever buy one. I personally think if you can't afford it, you should save up rather than buying a fake.

I AGREE! I'd never carry a fake. If I can't afford it, I'll save, save, save!

I know others would and thats fine. I respect everyone's wishes and to each his ((her)) own.

Yup. Totally agree. I dont like FAKES, and I dont HATE on people that carry them. Personally I wouldnt buy a fake, but something that does bother me is when a person has a fake and tries to pass their fake as if it were real, now that is just wrong!!! Somebody call ----->

ok, i agree with not EVER carrying a fake, but it is ur own decision, that's just mine.

also, i'm from ny too and i know people in the nypd, it's illegal and they have taken the bags away....i know what ur talking about with the bags in the back and those are the ones that are the real replica's...the ones in the front are usually the lv or coach look alikes that have slight differences so they're not breaking any copyrighting laws technically.....b/c on canal there's a whole street of people in the open with shops and everything!!! weird....it also makes me angry b/c i only will carry real so i hate when i see someone with a knock off of one of my bags, it almost makes the bag's less valuable on some levels if everyone can "have one", ya know?? sux!

I personally could never buy a fake - the way they are produced makes me sick.

I would rather buy a genuine non designer bag than spend a penny on a fake bag

I have a few Fake Spades; for a trendy bag you'll use once or twice, I figure whynot. In DC there's a few pushcarts in Georgetown with knock-off vendors. They're still pretty pricey for knockoffs. The especially lazy knock-off people just put a kate spade fabric "label" sticker on front.

True! I mean, I'm not ashamed to admit I have a couple cheapo handbags, too, but, I don't know, I just find it so dishonest to buy a knock off even if it means saving major moolah. I mean, think of all the people who actually spent a LOT more money to buy the original, right?

I buy some of my cheaper handbags because they're pretty, not because they're supposed to look more expensive than they really are. I guess non-signature knock offs are kind of okay, but monogrammed knock offs are just...they're just....immoral!

fakes are very illegal and support child labor, terrorism and what not.. i have bought a few fakes myself, but i didnt know any better then!

and saving up and getting the real thing feels soooooooooooooooooooo great!!!!!!!!

when you carry a fake you feel kinda fake yourself.. and that is not nice...

I totally agree with you and I would much rather using a "no name" stylish handbag than carrying a fake.

No way. I'm not going to buy a fake bag, ever!

If you can't afford it then don't pretend you can.
