Why do women buy handbags?

Hello!

This is my first post & I'm trying to understand what motivates women to buy handbags to help with creating the right look for our website & shop - I hope thats okay I don't want to offend anyone.

We're based in the UK & I guess that most of you guys are in the US, so rest assured I'm not trying to get anyone to buy anything! Our website is just having the final touches put to it, & I want to make sure the feel, text etc is appropriate when its finished. The shop is quite small & has a kind of boutique feel to it.

In honesty I'm struggling a little bit (partly because I'm a man probably), but myself & my wife originally got into having a handbag shop when we tried to help a friend of ours who wanted to open one - she didn't have the money, so we put it up for her, only for her to disappear a few months later, so we now have a shop that we need to try & make work well to recover our investment & of course to try & create a fun business out of.

Our initial concept was to source only really good looking, fashionable, & high quality bags, but ones that wouldn't cost the Earth either, & I think we've been quite successful at doing that.

However, I'm now questioning whether that was the right thing to do, & so I want to try & understand what makes a handbag desireable, what women are really looking for, or rather what they want the handbag to do for them - is it for practical purposes, fashion, or just to make you feel good?

I hope you don't mind me asking this, but I couldn't think of anywhere better to ask than on a forum dedicated to the subject.

Any advise, comments, or anything else would be most gratefully appreciated.

Because we have a need to carry more things than men do.Men just carry their wallet and car keys.And as women,we might be someone's mom.Kids do say"Mom...can you hold this?" And we respond with "yeah stick it in my purse."

hi .. im new to this forum too .. and this topic really caught my attention .. for me .. a desireable handbag is the one that can carry a lot of stuff, preferrably shoulder bag, since everytime I go out, I carry a lot of stuff, such as my makeup case, wallet, phones, my bf's wallet, car keys, toilletries, and other junks And after putting so much stuff, the handbag doesnt weight so much .. I meant it doesnt hurt to carry it on ur shoulder .. some bag's handles doesnt feel nice in your shoulder if u carry a lot of stuff ..

I buy bag mostly because of the fashion n impulse buying .. of coz I bought bag that will make me look good
