Default Dog Attacks

My friend is distraught right now because she came home to find two large dogs on her deck, and her cat ripped to pieces between them. They got it cleaned up and kept the kids away, but now she is afraid of the two dogs coming into her yard and onto her deck when her kids are out there.

Is there anything she can do? She already has a fence up.

Has she contacted the dogs' owners? If not, she should go and explain the situation to them. It they are not cooperative or seem unwilling to address the issue (since the dogs could be a danger to the kids, and shouldn't be roaming free), I don't think it would be out of line to consult the police.

It should definitely be reported because if this isn't the first time then the dogs may have to be removed from the home and the owners are liable. I would call the local police and see who it has to be reported to.

i would have called the cops. they would know what to do and to contact the dogs owners. If she tries to talk to the owners it might make it worse.

KelLi (or however you write that!) that would be my fear too. Apparently they said something to the child of one of the owners, when they were in a state trying to get this dog, dripping with blood, off their property. But they didn't speak to the parents yet, and I think they should go straight to the police.

When I lived with my grandmother, her neighbor had 5 dogs and they got loose. My grandmother was outside on the porch and the dog like jumped her. Now she also had cancer at the time so she bled very easily. We went to the guys house, pounded on his door and he wouldn't answer. We watched him and his girlfriend watch through their bedroom window at everything that went on. We called the cops and they told the guy that if his dogs came on our property again they would be put down. The neighbor came over after the cops left and he asked my grandmother if she wanted a band aid. A few months later the dogs got loose and attacked 2 of our cats. One of the cats tried climbing a tree and the dog pulled the cat down and the cats paws were left in the tree. I know that's graphic, I'm sorry. The other cat's insides were ruptured. Trust me, calling the cops, will do something about it.

dogs are the love of my life but in reality not all dogs are that lovely..some are trained and have this fighter instinct so its best to report it before anything worse happens..

I agree with you. As much as I love dogs and animals, I was not going to be upset if my dad shot this dog. I know that sounds bad now but when it comes on your property and basically attacks you then something needs to be done.

Wow, reading your story was awful. Yes, I have told my friend that they should call and report this, they certainly don't want to find themselves in a situation like yours.

I don't want them to get hurt. I would have been right on the phone with the cops as soon as it happened.
