Default Anyone else not allowed pets?

I live in a block of flats, and we're not allowed pets - except fish. Seriously, not even hamsters

I'm not really that big a pet lover compared to some of my friends who have huge numbers of cats or dogs, but I do sometimes wish I could have a hamster, complete with a habitrail castle and space station for him to play in.

Is anyone else stuck in this kind of situation?

Hopefully within the next year or so I'll be able to move...

It's too bad you can't have pets where you live. (And hamsters are SO cute in their little habitrails, aren't they?) I've stayed in a place with no-pet rules too.

I had an "unauthorized" cat for the entire four years I lived there. The first landlord turned a blind eye, but when the place sold, the second landlord was a real stickler for regulations, so I took my cat and moved.

Yeah, I really miss the hamster I had as a kid. I was only allowed a small cage for him, and I vowed when I was an adult I'd build my next pet a nice palace. I still want to do that.

Good on you for moving when the new landlord showed up. I know a lot of people who would have just given their pet away

im very VERY happy to say that i am allowed pets where i live.
i actually live in a small one room apartment downtown, and i have a cat with me.

i hope some kind of law passes to make it ALLOWED to have pets in their apartment.

HOW MANY ANIMALS MUST WE EUTHANIZE IN SHELTERS.

I think it would be great if there were some compromise where people in rented flats were allowed pets, but ONLY if they were taken from shelters, and ONLY if they look after the pet properly.

Someone above me smuggled a dog in recently, and they were treating it very badly. One of my neighbours reported it, purely out of concern for the animal.

I guess the way the council see it, most of the people in this particular block (it's a bad neighbourhood) aren't fit to keep pets.

It's not that. It is considered a risk if the animal gets out more than that. If a rat, or hamster got out and got into another flat it could chew up furniture, carpet or curtains before it was found. If it died there the tenant could be left looking for a VERY nasty smell, not even knowing why.

It's just too close quarters. Additionally caged animals can smell, and in the close quarters neighbours can suffer.

I can't have pets because the family member we live with won't have them I'd love fish for my daughter.

Fortunately I own my house. So I can have pretty much as many pets as I want to.

I own my home and have for many years, but even when I was renting, I only considered properties that allowed pets. My dog is family, and so he goes where I go.
