Default Do You Spay?

All of our animals have been spayed. It reduces the risk of them wandering off in search of a mate and getting hurt, and of course we didn't want to deal unwanted litters. But of course not everyone does, and I was wondering why?

I do. I think some people take in strays and can't afford to get them fixed and they end up having a litter. Some people have good intentions if letting their animal just have one litter but then later can't bring themselves to get their animal fixed because of their own fears.

All my animals are spayed or nuetered. I think that is the way to go. Just look at the full animal shelters.

Yes, mine are all spayed. It's the responsible thing to do. There is absolutely no excuse not to nowadays, with low cost spaying programs and even free spaying in some areas. Unless you are breeding an animal, they need to be spayed.

Spay...that's why millions of animals are put to death every year. Unless your going to breed purebreeds...and know what your doing, just spay them.

We believe in having our animals spayed or neutered. We do not believe in adding unnecessarily to the pet population. If we were to show or breed animals then obviously it would be a different story.

ABSOLUTELY! I spend a lot of time at my local animal control, and it breaks my heart to see how many wonderfuly animals get put to sleep. There are just SO MANY! I wish more people were as responsible as those who have replied to this thread.

All of our cats have been spayed or neutered. It bothers me to think of all the animals put down, too.

I am chiming in with folks who say getting your pet spayed/neutered is the right thing to do.

I couldn't imagine what would happen if I had a boy cat who wasn't neutered - he'd probably be all aggressive from not getting any...

Default we didnt we do now

we had only a basset hound at first and he is gay!
so with that said my daughter went to aneighbors and picked up one of their pups. it followed her home for a year we tried to run her off, with no avail.

So we adopted her, Flower is her name. We had no money, all we were getting was food stamps and we lkoive in far rural TN. so no vet was at our disposal.

She had teh littera nd we found a no kill shelter in a next county who had a list of people wanting babies. So they went in were spay and went home in a matter of days. GREAT!

she had gotten preggers again and this time it was only one, so we kept him.

a few months later in a locked yard a stary came over and she was with pups again. We kept those.
This time we had money and small jobs. but she was in trouble. Shew almost died and needed a hysterectomy not justa spay. so we have all of her babies! now here is teh funny part, we kept the father of all the babies too!
The little female in the litter got oput and was clipped by a drunk driver (actually high on meth) we didnt know she had gotten out so to the vet she went and she was spay!
now the boys are being done one by one........
we are big fans of spay andneuter but there are times when financially and geographically you just cant.........
we have now 8 BIG FURRY babies........
fartfignugen, Flower, Sugar, BabyGirl ( aka the princess), General Patton, Shadow, Boom Bear, Badger.
In memorium Super Pooper, he died on October 28th 2007 form wounds inflicted by the other males.

All of our animals are neutered. I'm of the opinion that if you can't afford to have this done, then you probably can't afford a pet. A lot of vets will even do it at cost if you let them know you don't have a lot of money.

There are just so many unwanted animals out there, I'd hate to add to the list!

mine hasn't been. he did run away some time ago and i almost went crazy. he ran off that morning and came back at 11pm that nite with a girl dog. I sprayed my perfume all around my yard because I read somewhere that they could smell it. Well I guess he did because he came home. This was the first time he ran off.

I'm a firm believer that all pets should be spayed and neutered. The only breeding that should be done should be for the betterment of the breed(s).

Not spaying or neutering your pets have been linked with a higher occurrence of cancer, as well as other health problems. For instance, many smaller toy breeds have problems giving birth, and some problems can lead to death.

In addition, so so so so many animals are already in pounds, are strays or are put to death EACH DAY. Please do not contribute to this ever growing problem.

My Bessie has been spayed. When i saw her picture on the HUA website,i knew that i wanted her to be a part of my family.
She was originally from Nebraska and her people(notice i didn't say family) ran a Meth lab out of their house. She was left alone in a cage without food or water for days on end.At a year old,she was pregnant with her first litter of puppies.Six months later, she became pregnant again, but this time she and her pups were taken to HUA(a great shelter/sanctuary-no kill)where four out of eight pups died.So once they were weaned, she became spayed and the rest is history. My husband and i drove 1200 miles round trip from Michigan to adopt her.
Do i believe in spaying and neutering?Yes i do.It breaks my heart to see so many loving animals looking for great homes that don't have a chance because there aren't enough homes for them.I'm sorry, but i could go on forever on this subject.

We spay/neuter and adopt our pets. I had a friend who took in a stray cat that was preggers (she didn't know at the time she took the car in). We have one of her kittens (she's now almost 10 years old actually). We spayed the kitten before we even brought her home, but my friend didn't spay/neuter the other kittens (or the mom) even though she could afford to - she didn't more or less b/c she was too lazy to make a vet appointment. It drove me nuts and was actually one of the many things that reminded me that this gal was just too irresponsible to remain friends with.

EXACTLY ... it's the only responsible thing to do ... I've never bought a pet from a breeder always from the SPCA.

yes I had my cat neutered when he was a little over 6 months old. I didn't wanna run the risk of him getting sick or spraying around my house.
