Default Desexing of dog

Should I let my female two year old dog have one litter of pups before I get her desexed. I would really like to have my dog desexed but I have been told that it might be better to let her have one litter of pups first then have her done. Is this true?

I think if you're going to get her fixed, anyway, then getting her fixed now would be better for her in the long run. I believe there are studies that show that spayed animals live longer and have less risk for serious disease than non-spayed/neutered animals.

HTH!

What do you plan on doing with the puppies once she has them? If you decide to let her have a litter, make sure that you will be able to find homes for the puppies. It's a shame how many homeless pets there are in this world.

I think you should just get her fixed, especially if you weren't really planning on breeding her.

We got my dog Abby fixed when she was 6 months old and she is doing great. We also did it with our dog when we were younger and she is going on 15 years old already.

IMO, unless the dog is purebred, you'd be better off having the dog spayed before having even one litter. There are too many dogs needing homes in the world as it is.

Male dogs are best...desexed ASAP because adult studs (male dogs) who get desexed tend to go...crazy. True story.

Uh oh, agent_orange, it sounds like you have a story to tell about desexing a male stud dog!

Nah, I just know someone who's dog just went crazy after they desexed him. I never intended to desex my dog (he's a humpy feller) because I want to have his babies so I can remember him when he...dies. I'm lucky Lhasa Apsos can live up to 20 years

Dude, that'd be cruel. I swear, dogs go crazy if you spay or neuter them too late into their lives!

My husband didn't want to neuter our male dog, but then he started this awful territorial peeing on our furniture when he turned 8 years old and the vet said neutering would take care of that problem. It did. Also it is supposed to reduce the dog's risk of prostate cancer. Or something. I didn't listen.

Oops, I should clarify: the male dog was the one peeing on the furniture, not my husband.

Yeah, that's pretty cruel. Desex them as early as 6 months. Waiting too long is just crazy.

Hope you enjoy this!

Mi doggie is so happy!

My Puggy is fixed and he's going on 15 years...

I too have heard that spaying/neutering is best for their health in the long run. I believe it minimizes their chances of certain cancers.

We wanted to fix Prince as well but we cancelled the surgery appt and didn't go through with it. He's a little under a year and friends tell us we should have done it when he was 6-8 months old... We're not planning on breeding him, anyway. I'm worried we wouldn't find parents as good as us for his puppies. We LOVE our dogs and all animals!
