Default Do your two cats play together?

I've heard some people say their two cats don't play together, but others do.

I'm wondering if I get a second cat if they will get along. I want him to have a playmate so he leaves me alone more.

Do you have two cats? Do they play together? Did you get them at the same time?

I've got 3...and they all get along perfectly. I think it depends on what type of cat you have...if she/he is a loner and a very independent cat, she/he might just shrug off the new cat...but if she's nice and playful, the cat's will definitely get along. Cats aren't much of fighters anyhow...if they don't end up liking eachother...they'll probably just stay out of eachother's way.

I have only one cat,but my neighbour has one also, and they 'visit' each other quite often. They get along perfectly.I think the issue regarding cats is acceptance when first introduced, something similar to herds or animal groups/families.

I believe it depends on the two personalities of the cats in question.

We have an older male who was joined here a couple years ago by a younger female.

They don't socialize except for the female tip-toeing around the male so he doesn't chase her.

There's no real fighting, but he's definitely playing the "alpha male" card.

Hmm, maybe I'll try it. My cat is bored it seems. I do try to play with him, but sometimes I feel like he's trying to make me into another cat!

The key is in the introduction. Cats aren't like dogs, they need slow introductions that involve separating them at first and letting them get used to each other's scents. There's usually a lot of hissing to start because they're both scared of each other, and it's essential to give your original cat extra love to make sure s/he doesn't think that they now have to compete for love/food/etc.

I would take a gander at The Cat Site (http://www.thecatsite.com/), there are articles about introducing cats and the forums are very helpful too.
