Any parrot fans out there?

I have wanted a parrot since I was little - either an African Gray or Amazon. Does anyone have any experiences with these birds, good or bad? I am considering buying one within the next year and would appreciate any advice.

I am still traumatized from the parrot I had in junior high. When you went to clean the cage it would squawk and fly at you and try to bite you. I hated it. Now I flinch every time a pigeon comes within six feet of me.

i once approached my friend's parrot while it was perching and it panicked when i got near and he fell!! i felt so guilty....

I hear that parrots have this special affinity with their owners, is it true? The father of my friend owned one and when her father died, the parrot died of loneliness, they said.

I can remember when I was a little girl my uncle had this gray parot he was soooo mean I hated going to his house I was scared to death from the moment when we walked in until the moment we left that was one mean bird.

I have an African Grey their good pets, just pay lots of attention to them and let them out of their cages often (remember to clip their wings) so they can stretch and all, other than that, their awesome!

I used to care for a parrot when i was young but i can't remember whether they can really talk or not

I have never had a parrot, but one should know that they can live up to 50 years, so if you own one you should make provisions for it if the bird might outlive you.
