I’ve often felt that
Balenciaga could benefit from spreading their wings a bit, at least where their
handbags are concerned. There are only so many studded, tasseled, moto-modeled designs they can churn out, and it’s already reached a point where many of them look alike. So it was nice to see the
Quilted Arena bag if only for that reason - it’s quilted, it’s devoid of heavy hardware, it’s a departure from the sharp, street chic. Sounds great, but unfortunately the
Quilted Arena still falls short of being all that it could be. The leather is lush and cozy to the touch, but the quilting and boxy shape lend the
purse a cushiony look that’s not really stylish. In fact, it looks more like something one might carry her knitting supplies in.
