Astonishing but true: quilted leather takes a backseat to regular old run-of-the-mill leather on Marc Jacobs’s latest creation. And you know what? It’s not bad at all. Hopefully the popularity of the Mix Quilted East West Tote will steer MJ in a new direction from now. This oversize bag is true to its designer’s predilection for pushlocks and chunky chain handles, and of course it just wouldn’t be an MJ purse without a hint of quilt. On this tote, it trims the sides and edges in a mute gray shade. The rest of the bag is done up in brown, and in all honesty the combination is quite bland. The handbag’s design trumps the color faux pas, but I’d still prefer something more bright and classic. Available for $1753 at MyTheresa.
