Bottega Veneta is undoubtedly the king of woven leather purses, so it wasn’t surprising to see lots of interlacing leather at their Milan Spring 2008 show. However, it was clear that the Italian brand doesn’t want to rest on its laurels; instead, the new handbags employed unique design techniques, including lots of whipstitching, straps that were woven into the body of the bag like a belt loop, and a bizarre accordion-style pleating. Neutrals ruled the runway, with a few sultry metallics thrown in. Snakeskin, crocodile - no animal was left unused.
My personal favorite? A dove gray handbag adorned with pastel strips of woven leather that looked like Jordan Almond-colored snakes. Least favorite? A woven floral tote that screamed “grandma.”
