Groovy indeed. I’ll admit that the first thing that popped into my mind upon seeing this black and white checkerboard Marc by Marc Jacobs Metal Check Groovee purse was “Avril Lavaigne.” And while the handbag undoubtedly has a retro, punk-era esthetic that some may find dated or, ahem, bathroom tile-ish, I’m actually kind of digging it. The checkerboard print is young and fresh, but the black trim, gold hardware, and grommeted buckles that loop around the bag’s body add a certain fashion-y polish. In other words, it’s haute meets Hot Topic. It wouldn’t get a ton of wardrobe play, but with the right black sundress or skinny jeans and black or white cami, this could be a fun impulse buy.
