It’s heavier than your firstborn child (and, one might argue, a mite more expensive), but Marc Jacobs’ timeless Venetia bag is well worth the shoulder pain. The bulky bag is laden with strong gold hardware and includes just enough space to hold your basic bag essentials - and then some. With ease, I can toss in my umbrella, notebook, tape recorder, makeup bag and a whole lot more. In a pinch, this could probably double as a pseudo overnight bag, filled with
just the absolute necessities. This beauty comfortably slips onto my arm, but I rarely wear it as a shoulder bag, although it is possible.
A couple of exterior pockets do a lovely job of keeping my cell phone and spare change at close range, important given the fact that Venetia both zips and buckles shut. This is great if you’re conscious about keeping things under near literal lock and key; however, it’s a nuisance to open when you’re at the cash register and there’s an impatient line of people behind you. While shopping, I tend to leave it unbuckled to make life a little easier.
If these things don’t bother you - as they don’t me, the resident MJ fanatic - then you’ll appreciate the variety of rich, luscious colors available. I fell head over heels for the luxurious quilted ivory version, though it was a toss up between that and the limited edition zebra print. In the end, I opted for the simplistic over the unexpected - but I’ve still got my sights set on that gorgeous striped accessory…
