Sorry, Kate, but this Kate Spade Cannes Gala clutch is a no-”Cannes”-do. The bag starts off a good note with luxe chocolate, black, or midnight satin and Italian poly sateen lining. Then things go haywire. Feathers should be used sparingly, if at all, and this unstructured clutch has an explosion in a flower-like burst that’s accented by a silver brooch. Admittedly, the fashions at Cannes are a little out there, but two wrongs don’t make a right.

I like it. The clutch is so simple and streamlined that the feathers and brooch contrast and complement it well. The brooch looks a little sea creature-ish, but I like the overall look of the bag.
