Paris Runway Report: Christian Lacroix Couture
By: Erin D.

There’s no denying the artistry behind Christian Lacroix’s couture designs. The first design to hit the Paris runway was a gold lame coat dress that looked like it was straight out of Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss.” Next came bubbly black and white polka-dotted mini-dresses that recalled ’80s prom dresses but in a surprisingly Parisian-chic way. Enormous flower brooches (paging Carrie Bradshaw) dotted several ensembles, which appeared in a variety of colors - yellow, black, red, purple. In fact, there was a little bit of everything: delicate floral embellishments, bold geometric prints, watercolor-esque prints, innocent white mini-dresses that seemed perfect for a first Communion, elaborate ruffles and feathers, you name it. The entire collection was daring but rather madcap and schizophrenic - think Marie Antoinette circa 1986 in Oz - until the end, when a handful of beautiful light, frothy chiffon gowns in every color imaginable appeared.
