Paris Runway Report: Givenchy Couture
By: Erin D.

The best way to describe
Givenchy’s Paris couture collection? “Star Wars.” The show featured flying saucer hats that could double as satellite dishes, lots of coiling, and severe dresses that all but sewed the models’ hands behind their backs. Save for a few demure gowns towards the end, I found little to celebrate in this Princess Leia look. The color palette was primarily black, white, and gray, with some touches of navy, metallics, and a couple of refreshingly bold yellow gowns that helped lightened the morose tone of the show. There was a lot of exaggerated pleating as well. Strangely, the collection was smaller (25 outfits rather than 40) than the other shows, but frankly, it would have been more successful if it had been limited to five outfits, sans horrible hats.
