Private Messaging

I have an indicator that shows that I have a private message. Yet, when I click on it, it says that private messaging has been disabled. If that is the case, then why do I have a private message waiting for me?

I turned them off because people were getting spammed in their private messages.

I just turned them back on and ill leave them on for a few days so people can check their messages, then I'll turn them back off until I can find a system that lets you have private messaging without spammers getting through.

Thanks for the answer. Spam can be a problem-but if it is site members doing the spamming, then users can normally set there inbox to ignore or block the incoming messages from certain people. That way they won't see the junk.
