I've never had one, but I was 'accused' of having one. I don't mean that in a bad way to people who suffer from them, just that the way the nurse treated me was horrible.
I had a serious stomach infection - I couldn't keep anything down at all, I was terrified to eat because I knew I would vomit straight after. I went to the doctors and pleaded with them to find out what was wrong, because it had been dragging on months.
The nurse said 'Have you considered bulimia, do you think you're fat or something? I think this is psychological' and refused to even do tests on me.
I was down to 4 stone, and so ill I couldn't even keep water down, before being rushed to hospital with dehydration and malnutrition.
They did blood and urine tests, discovered it was just a simple infection, gave me antibiotics, and kept me in too weeks on a drip until I was rehydrated and eating again. Simple as that.
I feel really, really sorry for people with genuine eating disorders if they get dismissed / brushed off like I did. For them it takes real courage to seek help, and that would set them back a long way.
