Default Being Taken Seriously

This is something that I have often had issue with; men who think that women cannot possibly do DIY, or cope with lifting things, etc.

Have you had to face this? Ever had issue with a man who thought you should be treated 'delicately' and been given all the light work and nothing else?

hmm..my male friends already know i hate the damsel in distress thing so they pretty much leave me to myself..however, there are those who aren't familiar with me and they are the ones who usually do that to me..helping me get out of the car, etc...i find it silly really and i just tell them straight out hey i can do this!!!!

Nope.I learned how to fix things by watching my dad.My mother, sister and I watched and observed him.
My husband knows when I need help lifting heavy stuff and when I can do it myself.
Heck there was one time when my husband and his dad had to put a new alternator belt on their Jeep Cherokee. They couldn't
understand why there was too much belt.I kep telling them"the belt is way too big."They wouldn't listen. They kept on trying to force it on.I kep saying it was too big. Finally after many swear words did they both realize the belt didn't fit.Well hello...did I say that a few times?
So I know how to do some repairs on my car such as brakes, change the spark plugs and change my oil.Heck my husband needs my help.

I haven't come across that but I do like it when someone lifts something heavy for me. I guess I like to be treated like that if it's under the right context. I don't like to be treated disrespectfully.

I work in a male dominated industry, but I'm somehow oblivious to being treated differently - it does happen - subtle stuff like questions being addressed to my husband all the time instead of me, and people telling me how to do stuff when I'm testing out a new product.

I just tune it out (probably years of going through the same old stuff) and whenever we run into the same people a second time, it doesn't happen again.

It's annoying having to prove yourself, but not worth getting too worked up over.
