Birth Control
As far as birth control goes, I'm just curious as to what kind of methods people use. Pills? Patches? Whatever? I tried using the NuvaRing, and I absolutely hated it. What forms of birth control have you tried? Is there any kind of birth control that you would recommend?

I use the Yasmin pill. I think it's causing me to gain weight However, this could have nothing to do with the pill itself and could be because of my eating patterns. On the good side, it gives you a more regular cycle and shorter periods. Who wouldn't love that?! I would recommend this pill to someone, but you have to remember to take it everyday.

I did use the mini pill Micronor. Now, I just use natural family planning and condoms. I learned long ago how to recognize my most fertile times. Mostly we abstain during those times, but sometimes we give in and just use condoms.
If you want to know more about your fertility cycles, read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's an awesome read, no matter if you are trying to get pregnant or avoid pregnancy.

I use the mini pill microlut. Anything stronger than this sends my hormones crazy. I still have to be very careful as the mini pill is not as safe as the stronger ones. So I also watch my cycle each month just to be on the safe side.

I was advised by my doctor not to use pills because I have cystic breasts. And since we dont have a baby yet, Im not worried about contraceptions. What Im worried about is since Im already in my 30s, there's a higher risk of cervical and breast cancer.

We don't use anything just try to be very careful Yes I know I am living on the edge I know. Right after I had my last baby I took the pill for a couple months oh boy I was mean moody all the time plus I would bleed 3 weeks out of a month so I just stopped taking them.

aja, BCP are actually helpful in preventing ovarian cancer, though, so it's not all bad!
I've used BCP, charting, and Depo-Provera. Hated all of them. was about to get an IUD when I found a lump in my breast; long story short, I had to have chemo and that put me into menopause. Sooooo, no more birth control decisions for me.

I've thought about Depo-Provera - does it hurt?

It's just a subcutaneous (skin not muscle) shot in your butt, every three months. It stings like any other shot, but only while you're getting the shot.
It also hurts in that I gained 50 lbs. in 2 years while on it!

I didnt know that BCP actually helps in preventing ovarian cancer thanks for the info Pinkribbon, but what I know is that when you reached the age of 30 and havent had a baby yet, you are a candidate for ovarian cancer. Since I am not advised to go into pills because of the high content of estrogen, that's what Im kinda worried about. And I hope staying fit helps.

Interesting...I had to get off the pill because it always -- no matter how low-dose -- turns my hormones upside down. I get so emotional!

Hi, I think you can make use of condoms, they will not cause you any sort of problems.

Well I dont think any BCP can help you out.

Well if you want to use one you should consult the doctor first.. and yes no BCPs can be good as it will make you put on some weight as well..

That's not entirely accurate. Yes, the original form of BCP had the weight-gain side effect to it, but there's many low-dose (mini pill, etc.) forms of BCP today that don't cause weight gain.

No it doesn't hurt. It is just like getting a shot. They either do it in your butt or in your shoulder. The only problem is that your periods are irregular if you even have one and once you stop taking it you more than likely wont have a period or a regular period for up to 6 months.

And birth control pills are loaded with estrogen, too, which makes us pretty. So that's a faboo 2 for one deal right there.

Condoms are really good. I also suggest them. I feel that the side effects of taking pills are too much to handle for me...specially the weight gain part and hormonal imbalance at times.

I cannot use any type of hormonal birth control. They just make me crazy, I feel like this - all the time! We just use spermicidal condoms, and I watch my cycle.

I have also used the Nurv ring I hated it too and so did my husband . Right now we have no brith control at all my sister was using the patch and she reallly like dit and her Dr. took her off and put her on the pill and she eats them like candy. So if you can remeber to take a pill everyday or if your Dr still presribes the patch try oneof those.

Fertility awareness for me (sometimes otherwise referred to as Natural Family Planning). I took the pill for about six months; never again. No need to fill my body with hormones.

I have decided to go with Mirena. I have my annual appointment tomorrow, so I am going to see what my gyno has to say about it. I have gone over the side effects and it looks a lot better than a lot of the pill options out there. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
