Burberry is one of the only labels out there that does this with such success, constantly imagining new designs that actually stand out even while making use of the classic check pattern. Always fresh and inventive, Burberry brings it yet again with the new Studded Leather Satchel. If you’re looking for quaint and classic, you won’t find any of that here. What you will find is a decidedly edgier look from the Burberry folks, complete with oversized brass studs atop an unexpected shade of mustard. Rarely (never?) have I described a Burberry bag as cute, but I think the time has finally arrived. Oh my goodness, is this adorable. My admiration for Burberry continues to grow. Of course, the brand is iconic for a reason. To stay true to its roots while reflecting modern trends is really impressive, and the label seems to do this repeatedly, season after season, without fail and often without flaw. The Burberry Equestrian Check Print Shopper is a good example. On paper, pairing an ombré-effect gradient with a classic check print sounds more than a little dubious. The result, though, is quite nice: a chic carryall that will last for years. Even though all the buzz surrounding ombré designs has faded a bit, the look itself isn’t easy to dismiss. It’s an updated, grown up version of tie-dye that works itself nicely into most wardrobes, but if you prefer to carry it instead of wear it, try this bag. You’ll use it for years. Oh Pre-Fall – so many bags, so little funding. But at the very least I can gush about these upcoming beauties to the general public. The luxurious mocha leather of the Burberry Langley Shoulder bag is a fabulous option for chilly fall days and the simple hobo shape is roomy and functional. You’ll have plenty of space both to fit everything in there and dig around looking for it. The belt around the top cinches the purse just a tiny bit, which I like because it makes me feel like the hobo needs help keeping its pants up. The soft brass of the buckle looks lovely up against the deep brown leather. Available at Neiman Marcus for $895.

It’s not fall yet – and I’m not exactly counting down the days when it’s the first day of summer! – but I also don’t mind planning ahead, especially when it comes to fashion. This Burberry Quilted Leather Hobo Bag caught my eye, mainly for its luxurious, goes-with-everything tan hue. Even better, it can be carried now and worn into fall and even into early winter with ease, thanks to its soft, sumptuous leather – it’s the perfect complement to cold weather wools and rich knits. Normally I’m not a huge fan of Burberry bags because I prefer bags with softer leather and Burberry (like Louis Vuitton) is usually a stiffer leather canvas. I would make an exception for the Burberry Check Belted Hobo, though. The design is just beautiful, and it is really functional as an everyday purse. However, I think the belted closure might be a double-edged sword. I love the practicality of being able to open a bag wide, because you can see everything that’s in there at one time. With no real dedicated closure, though, I’d worry about things falling out. Still, it’s a lovely tote, and if I wanted a chic, clean look, I would definitely put this purse at the top of my list.
