Wouldn’t it be nice to be Sofia Vergara for a day? I mean hello, the gal has it all – she’s painfully gorgeous, she’s a successful actress and model, and she’s got an in with the Smurfs, Diet Pepsi, and Kmart (huge franchises = huge connections/discounts/money in her pocket). What else could a girl want? Oh, that’s right a hunky guy with lots of influence – check and check, she’s dating politician Nick Loeb! I’ll tell you one thing, if I were her for a day, I’d be spending it like she is in the pics above – out shopping for Chanel. Don’t need to be Sofia to shop for Chanel? When is a purse too pricey?

In searching for handbags to write about, I recently came across an alligator backpack that retails for $38,500, more than what most of us paid for our first car (and maybe as much as some of us paid for our current car!).

Serious purse lovers know the big guns in the industry like Hermes, Proenza Schouler and Balenciaga regularly put out bags that go for $20,000 and up. So how much is too much to pay for a handbag?

Every woman has her own purse point.  That being said, here are three bags that have made it into most of the top ten most expensive handbag lists. These items are not currently for sale, but I did include the official website for each designer so you can check out the new fall lines.

Do you love Chanel? Check this out. There are only thirteen Diamond Forever Classic Bags. Each one features 334 diamonds, totaling 3.56 carats, and an 18-carat white gold frame – and tops off at $261,000.

If you have an extra $150,000 you want to get rid of, you can throw it away on the Urban Satchel. Created and covered with “urban charms,” this LV bag is really just covered in trash.  As Seth Meyers would say on SNL, “Really”? Even though it looks like a joke, there are celebrities and fashion icons who are fighting over this thing.

I don’t know any woman who wouldn’t welcome a Hermes bag into her wardrobe. Some styles are more attainable, but the Matte Crocodile Birkin  is adorned with ten carats in diamonds and a white gold clasp. The price tag: $120,000.

Ugh! I mean, um, er…congrats, Leann Rimes! The newlywed, who is fresh off her surprise nuptials to creep actor Eddie Cibrian, made sure to show off her five-carat rock as she landed in Toronto this past week. It’s no secret Leann loves Chanel just as much as she loves the cameras, as evidenced by her plush white quilted bag. I daresay that is the only thing I like about this whole ensemble.

A sleek and subtle-looking Jennifer Love Hewitt was recently spotted storming the shopping scene on Robertson Boulevard. She casually carried an ever-so-elegant Chanel purse at her side, which really spiced up her soft, simple spring outfit. It appears that the ultra-stunning Nicky Hilton has skipped right passed spring and jumped head first into summer. At least, her last gas-getting outfit looks that way! She was recently spotted pumping gas in some sassy sailor shorts, a loose-fitting tank, open toe wedges, and of course that ravishing, red Chanel Maxi Flap Bag. Her look was even topped off with a bright red mani/pedi, bold black sunglasses, and a fun fedora. I know the weather has been crazy this year, but I’m not sure I’m ready for summer yet. (Besides, soft pastels and lightweight sweaters suit me. Although I’ll agree they’re not really Nicky’s thing.) Her style is usually bold, sharp and sexy, hence the Chanel handbag. Sizzling sisters Kourtney and Kim Kardashian hit the streets after a mani/pedi with not just than just their pretty purses in hand, but their shoes too! The bombshells held on tightly to their beautiful pumps and bags as they made their way to the car after leaving their afternoon feet treat. Kourtney is an absolute doll with her bold cape coat, salient beret, and ravishing Chanel Flap Bag. I absolutely adore her sense of style!

Lauren Conrad is doing all she can to ‘book,’ oh, I mean look, her best, as she’s out on her current book tour. It makes perfect sense that she’d be sporting a lovely black Chanel bag, her basically signature, go-to designer. Her books are titled, Sugar and Spice and Lauren Conrad Style, so clearly, looking fashionable goes hand-in-hand with promoting. Lauren is also wearing an exquisite green flared pea coat poncho, a white lace Marchesa dress, Aldo shoes and a Jennifer Behr headband.

Karl Lagerfeld showed his Spring/Summer 2011 collection October 5th in Paris, and the upcoming bags are interesting. There wasn’t a lot that was out of the ordinary for Chanel color or design-wise, but it’s nonetheless an important collection because of its implications on the direction handbags might be taking next year.

Of course, Chanel, while always classy, sophisticated, and one of the most sought-after handbag designers in the world, doesn’t always dictate or follow fashion trends, but I think they’re on the mark this time. After more than half a decade of large, oversize bags dominating the fashion scene, I think we may finally be seeing a switch back to mid-size or even clutch-size purses.

While it’s too early to tell whether this smaller bag trend will catch on, I, for one, welcome a change in size and design. I love the oversize boho look as much as anyone else, but perhaps it IS time to shift to smaller totes again. Just look at this compact clutch (below). Adorable!

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth went out for a “casual” stroll and breakfast, though it seems to be a little less on the casual side and more on the fashionable one. Liam wore a white t-shirt, camo shorts and tennis shoes, all consistent with that casual classification, Miley however, turned it up a notch! While her boots tone down her look quite a bit, there’s still no way to deflect the radiance and magnificence that is a Chanel bag! Add in the fact that she’s sporting this gorgeous purse with a rather rapturous leopard-print mini dress, and there just isn’t any casual about it!
