I’m kind of two minds about this Nina Ricci Ondine Tote. On one hand, I like the soft beige and simple shape – and the twisted ribbon detailing adds a quirky texture I kind of dig. It is both stylish and serviceable, but there’s nothing about it that makes my heart flutter in breathless anticipation. It is well made but it doesn’t really stand up in terms of innovation and appeal when compared to what else is available – luxe colors, new silhouettes, and a fresh perspectives.  Nina Ricci is French and old, but so is Chanel and you don’t see them relying on old standbys. Oh, to be able to raid Blair Waldorf’s closet. Leighton Meester hit the “Gossip Girl” set in a funky printed dress paired with a fierce cherry-red Chanel handbag. It’s an odd combo, but I’m sure Blair can make it work. And check out those patterned tights…yowza!

Looks like somebody went and got a punk rock makeover. A newly bobbed Christina Aguilera exited her car in denim cutoffs, black leggings, red pumps, a striped tee, black biker jacket, and — oh baby! — a fab Chanel handbag. Love that double C logo, and it’s got a rocker vibe that complements Christina’s outfit. Rock on, girl.

So much for going incognito. A low-key, black-clad Ashley Olsen had her attempts to lay low thwarted by the presence of one very noticeable (and covetable) black leather Chanel handbag. The double-C logo deserves a double take, as does that twisted leather and chain strap. Nice try, Ash!

Coffee? Check. Chanel? Check. Looks like Rachel Bilson is good to go! The actress flashed an embellished straw Chanel purse with her army green jacket and side-zip skinny jeans on a recent outing. I’ll be honest – I prefer my Chanel handbags quilted and leather. The embellishment here is just too OTT. But what do you think?

Wow – did Katy Perry land jury duty or something? The quirky pop star was surprisingly demure on a recent outing, if a leather jacket and tight skirt can be called demure, that is. Maybe it’s her black Chanel 2.55 purse that makes her look so classy. After all, it’s hard to look cheap when you’ve got one of those beauties hanging from your shoulder. So do you prefer Katy’s chic new look, or her zanier style?

A bunch of stylish starlets were at NYC’s Ace Hotel over the weekend at a party for Ann Taylor’s new collection.  Rachel Bilson had a fun, but pulled-together ensemble of casual Ann Taylor and Topshop pieces.  She elevated the outfit with a lovely blue quilted Chanel handbag and Christian Louboutin pumps.  Every smart fashionista these days knows how to mix the high and low.  What is your favorite combination?

Out with the old, in with the new. Although, technically, with Chanel fragrance and the recent Coco Rouge lipstick campaigns already under the belt, French singer/actress/Johnny Depp baby mama Vanessa Paradis isn’t exactly all that “new.” Still, the beauty has been hired to replace singer Lily Allen as the face for Chanel’s Coco Cocoon handbag collection. Will her ads outdo Lily’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”-inspired campaign? We can’t wait to find out!

 Karl Lagerfeld is predicting that  next winter will be supremely chilly.  Based on the snowfall from this past season, that’s not much of a stretch.  He demonstrated this with a giant iceberg at the Grand Palais Paris this week.  The collection itself was a mix of everything luxurious you could find cozy…Fuzzy tweeds, cashmere knits, leather and (faux) fur… While the concept was amusing, many bordered on abominable snowman or ‘Wookie’ territory.  Bulkier versions of the classic Chanel tweed suit were present, with extra fur and occasionally, ice-like chunky quartz embroidery.  While the looks were interesting, I had to imagine that most women in the world would not find these outfits particularly flattering on themselves.

The handbags in the collection received the same treatment.  They were equally fuzzy, furry and embellished.  The familiar signature quilted Chanel bag was also updated in chunky tweeds and the chain handles were often accented with feathers or fur.

Oh, that Alexa Chung — always thinking out of the box. Literally. Not content to have a Mulberry handbag named after her, the British “it” girl hit the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week with a wicker Chanel hamper fashioned into a purse. Creative, and handy for a front row picnic to boot!
