It’s definitely been a while since a Coach purse has caught my eye. Lately they’ve all had a similar feel about them and just haven’t sparked any excitement for me. The new Tattoo collection is not what I’d call exciting either, but it offers a fresh take on the Coach logo, stamping a print that is both vintage and modern at once. The Canvas Tattoo Extra Large Tote is more functional than anything else, but the logo is less awful than some of the sillier styles they’ve offered in the past. I’m not up for paying $528 for canvas, but this beach-worthy handbag could make a fun summer accessory for some logo-lover out there. Available at Macy’s.

It bears a slightly resemblance to Foley and Corinna’s City Tote, but this Coach Bonnie Foldover Crossbody still manages to hold its own. The practical shape alone makes it worth the money - it can be filled up to near capacity and swung over the shoulder, or folded at the crease and tucked beneath the arm. Appropriate for everyday use, this purse works the day shift and makes an easy transition to nighttime. Also in camel and seafoam. Available for $278 at Coach.

Coach hasn’t impressed me much with its Op Art prints, but I have nothing but praise for the new Op Art Travel Bag. It’s a melange of perky, bright hues that practically beg to be shown off all season long. I love the touch of metallic trim - it adds a considerably chic touch to what would otherwise be just another colorful Coach purse. It boasts a long strap, so it’s perfect for wearing across the body, and it’s roomy enough to hold a number of travel essentials. Of course, if you love carrying extra-spacious purses, this serves that purpose, too. Available for $698 at Coach.

Despite the new logo, some wacky designs, the unappealing (to me) Op Art print, Coach still manages to throw a few perfectly fabulous purses into the mix. Example: This Penelope Leather Shopper, which is that genius combination of chic and practical. It’s even reasonably priced at $348, and for a purse you’ll likely carry pretty often, it will pay for itself in no time. The classic approach is evident in the simple construction, but the luxe feel of the leather really drew me in first. Available in several colors at Nordstrom.

To say I absolutely adore the new Coach Bonnie collection is a bit of an understatement. It’s rare that I find myself drawn to an entire group of seasonal purses, but such is the case with this fabulous selection of colorful styles. Created in honor of late Coach designer Bonnie Cashin, the collection has a little bit of everything. The Bonnie Jeweled Canvas Carryall is slightly odd in that it explains all about the collection in great detail right on the bag. The “jewels” are nothing more than sequins and tiny pearls, so they gleam unobtrusively against a busy backdrop that features a glam, Cashin-influenced gal clutching three purses that request “Peace Right Now.” Certainly an interesting choice, it’s right for anyone who desires something slightly different - as different as one can hope for from such a big name. It’s hard not to feel a smidge envious of Isla Fisher as she runs errands in sunny LA. Not only is she comfortably padding around town in flip flops and wearing fabulous jeans, she also looks absolutely adorable. On her arm is the Coach Sabrina Satchel, which actually looks much more appealing when worn than sitting on a shelf. It’s available in a number of colors and is perfect for everyday wear. While I’m not happy about how writers have meddled with the Confessions of a Shopaholic film and diverted quite a bit from the book, I’m thrilled with Isla in the lead role. While I can see the potential of the new Coach Spectator Leather Sabrina, I can’t quite gets past its sporty appearance. I do adore the pale violet color and the contrast against the darker colors, but I generally prefer a more classic approach to the design and color palette of an everyday satchel. This is more of a limited, occasional use carryall that definitely would work on a casual spring or summer day. It’s got all of those functional details that make it appropriate for holding everything comfortably, but it’s not exactly an office-to-dinner style that would suit every occasion. My first words when I spotted the new Coach Tattersall Domed Graffiti Satchel? “Oh my God.” Followed by “ugh.” And I’m sitting here alone, so it has to be bad if I’m talking to myself. There are no redeeming qualities here, mainly because Coach has developed this bizarre obsession with tattooing childlike prints all over their newest designs. There’s a whole collection of Graffiti-themed styles, none any more intriguing or attractive than the last. The gaudy gold trim doesn’t help matters. I’ll pass - and close my eyes as I walk past the Coach store until these things are gone for good. Available for $498 at Coach.

Lately, whenever I receive one of those “What’s New” emails from Coach, I’m disappointed by the offerings. Not so this time, because the brand’s Madison Metallic Leather Shoulder Bag is a true, classic beauty. This is a quintessential, modern shoulder bag, with a simple shape, slightly gathered for a light pleated effect and done up in gorgeous metallic leather. Though I’m not usually one for metallics, I can never resist a subtle sheen, and I think this silver version delivers. There’s also a rose gold color, which is usually irresistible to me, but I find on this handbag that it’s a bit over the top for everyday wear. This, however, would totally work. Not exactly standard Coach fare, is it? The Penelope Python Clutch is unpleasantly bold, a weird myriad of blue, purple, yellow and black that just doesn’t seem to work. Factor in the ugly floral embellishment and it’s not a pretty picture at all. This purse has a zip-top closure, which I always find slightly unusual when a flap seems so much more elegant. And they want $1200 for this! Available at Coach.
